Disney had a show known as “The Proud Family” that ran from 2001-2005.  It chronicled and antics, madness and love of the Proud family.  There was the hapless and ever hopeful father, Oscar Proud; his long-suffering wife Trudy (a product of a much wealthier and classier family), his eldest daughter and main protagonist Penny, his trouble-making twins Cece and Bebe (named after the Winans), and Suga Momma, the pink bathrobe wearing, no-nonsense, smack talking Matriach of the family (and Oscar’s mom).  Penny’s friends rounded off the insanity – Dijoney, Sticky, LaCienega and Zoey.

I spent many hours watching the Proud family because they were crazy, funny, idiosyncratic, super-real and yet loving.  Also, this was the only cartoon that featured a predominantly black cast that didn’t take itself too seriously – poking fun at itself was a constant theme.
